The Solitude Diaries Literary Magazine
a literary magazine for the morbid and strange | free submissions, quarterly issues |
Horror, classic gothic literature, sci-fi | Poetry, Flash, Short Fiction, Fiction, and Visual Media
The Solitude Diaries is a gothic magazine, but we want works that deal with dark themes in ways that glimmer with compassion and introspection. Beyond the surface themes of TSD, we're looking for work that dives into complex ideas. We want realistic and pensive approaches to hard problems. What do you know about Solitude? What do you need others to know about it?
What do we think about the following topics?
CLICHE: In general, we are not fans of things we have seen before. We like things that feel fresh. If you can do a topic better than we've seen or can use a trope to explore something new or with greater efficiency, we might still be interested.
VIOLENCE: Sure, but we don't want it to be the main focus of the story. Make it serve a purpose! Slashers and stories that uncritically promote violence might fit better somewhere else.
DIVERSITY: We'd love to feature more artistic representation of disabled, queer, and BIPOC people.
HATRED: We will not accept work that promotes racism, homophobia, sexism, transphobia, or sexual violence. However, if you're interested in writing about these topics from a critical perspective and have something new to say about how they function in our lives, we will read on!
AI-GENERATED CONTENT: No. This is a hard limit, as we want to keep our magazine a place for real artists. Please do not use short cuts. You will be put on our banned list
